When the news came that Disney was buying the “Star Wars” franchise, word went out that not only was the company looking for a director for “Star Wars: Episode VII” and the further adventures of the franchise, but they were also looking at branching out and making spin-off movies based on characters in the universe. One fan-favorite idea was bringing back Boba Fett, but now reports indicate that the first spin-off movie will feature Yoda.
Whether this will feature a young Yoda, or maybe a Yoda story from between “Revenge of the Sith” and “The Empire Strikes Back,” is unknown. What is known is that Kathleen Kennedy is putting the slate together, and Yoda has always been a fan-favorite character. If you want to refresh your Star-wars memory before that you can watch the complete series on 123movies. Here is a look at the characters that might make for great “Star Wars” spin-off movies.
The first name on the production slate is Yoda, one of the greatest Jedi masters. The one thing that is known for sure is that Yoda is dead, so this movie will have to take place in the past. Yoda was first introduced in “The Empire Strikes Back” as a puppet controlled and voiced by Muppet master Frank Oz. He trained Luke Skywalker to be a great Jedi warrior but was really nothing more than a grumpy teacher. However, one of the highlights of the prequels was Yoda finally kicking some butt, thanks to CGI. One can only imagine the adventures Yoda had, either before the prequels or after the Clone Wars. Now, we won’t have to imagine it.
One of the most popular “Star Wars” characters to the die-hard fans is Boba Fett. The bounty hunter who was seeking to bring in Han Solo for Jabba the Hut never spoke a word in the original trilogy, but left a mighty impression on the fans. Maybe it was his cool costume, his jet pack or his great gun, but this was one bad guy that fans seemed to drift to as an antihero. No one wanted to see Boba Fett kill Han, but they wanted to see him in some other adventure. The prequels introduced him as a young boy and planted the seeds, not it is time for someone to explore those seeds of Boba Fett.
Saving the most popular for last, this option also might be the hardest. People want to see a Han Solo adventure movie. Even Rian Johnson and Wes Anderson said they would direct one of those. The big problem here is that, while people want to see Han Solo in a solo adventure, will fan accept anyone but Harrison Ford in the role? The movie can’t be about a crusty old man setting out on a new mission. It has to be the cocky young Han Solo. This movie will probably come one day, but who plays the smuggler will determine whether it ever works.
